Oakland Lake Park sparkles like a gem in the very heart
of Meadowbrook.
A scenic lake with paved walking trails, playgrounds and picnic benches, the park
has something for everyone.
The stone pavillion hosts many birthday parties and community get-togethers.
Old and young alike enjoy the beautiful scenery and wide open spaces .....
In their "Best of the WEST-o-PLEX 2002" issue, the FWWeekly staff
chose Oakland Lake Park as their favorite green space, calling it "an under-appreciated gem".
Here is a tidbit of Meadowbrook trivia ...
Did you know that the lake in Oakland Lake Park is actually named "Fosdic
Lake"? The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rather blandly describes the lake as "a 7-acre impoundment
of an unnamed tributary of the West Fork Trinity River ... (that) drains a .43 square-mile watershed that is mostly
residential".
We know it as the place we go to refresh our spirit, commune with nature and feed the ducks.
Of course, there is always room for improvement and efforts are underway to obtain a $25,000 grant for upgrades and
repairs to the park.
In the meantime we can all do our part to keep the park looking lovely - pick up a piece
of trash each time you walk around the lake, be sure to scoop your doggie poop. Keep the park will shining like
the showcase that it is!
