1-6-09: "OAKLAND CORNERS VILLAGE" APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL After much hard work by the WMNA, the Eastside Sector Alliance and Council Rep Kathleen Hicks, the City Council approved
an NEZ designation for the area around Oakland Blvd and Lancaster. The "Neighborhood Empowerment Zone"
provides tax incentives for commercial and residential development in this important intersection and surrounding blocks. For

2-25-9: OAKLAND LAKE PARK AND TANDY HILLS GRANTS PROCEED TO CITY COUNCIL The Parks Advisory Board has approved grants for both Oakland Lake Park and the Tandy Hills Nature Area.
Final approval will be given by City Council soon. Much needed water fountains, sidewalk repair and new trash receptacles will
hopefully soon be coming to Oakland Lake Park.

3-10-09: AN EVENING OF VIOLIN MUSIC - 2009 STEPHEN BARR MEMORIAL
CONCERT 7:30PM - Martin Hall, Texas Wesleyan University Jing Wang, prize-winning violinist and graduate
student at Rice University in Houston, will present a program of solo violin pieces in memory of Stephen T. Barr, son of longtime
benefactors and patrons of Wesleyan Music, Dr. Howard and Mrs. Patricia Barr. Wang will perform two sonatas for violin and
piano (Mozart's Sonata in B-flat Major and Brahms' Sonata No. 2 in A Major) as well as Maurice Ravel's Tzigane
and Henri Wieniawski's Fantaisie Brillante on Themes from Gounod's "Faust". Wang will be accompanied
by pianist and fellow Rice University graduate student Jeewon Lee. The concert is free and open

11-14-09: C.O.R.E. GROUP FORMED Fort Worth Police East Division hosted the second meeting of a multi-faceted community-building program to
revitalize the Eastside. New NPD5 Capt Gene Jones facilitated the meeting of "Communities Organized to Revitalize
the Eastside" which brings together business, religious, education and other stakeholders to address the challenges
and opportunities before us. The meeting will be held for one tightly focused hour from 10-11AM on the second Saturday
of each month. Visitors (with limited participation) are encouraged. New ideas are welcome.

EAST FORT WORTH BUSINESSMAN MAKES NATIONAL NEWS Adrian Murray and other concerned
citizens organized the first 912 Project Rally that was held today in downtown Fort Worth. Thousands marched in
the pouring rain carrying signs to protest the Obama administration's proposed plan for health care reform. They
listened to speeches by Adrian Murray, Pastor Steven Broden (Fair Park Bible Fellowship in Dallas), gubernatorial candidate
Debra Medina and others.
